Welcome to MYP Design Technology!
This year, our 7th graders will be continuing to hone their critical thinking skills, explore their creative abilities and become impactful problem solvers in their community! We know how exciting technology can be... but it's made even better when we learn how to incorporate the fundamentals of design. We'll be using a variety of tools and techniques this year including software (like Apple's iLife and Adobe's Creative Suite) but we'll also be using equipment like hammers, saws, and paint to bring our ideas to life.
Students units will focus on learning about how information is adapted, systems are established and materials are shaped to positively affect our lives.
We'll be using a process called the MYP Technology Design Cycle to help us create the best projects and solutions we can.
The design cycle sets the framework and path for students to follow when solving problems and creating solutions. The design cycle is broken down into four main areas:
Investigate - In the investigation phase, students work to better understand the problem and challenge they face. They use research and other tools to help them come up with ideas on what a successful solution would entail.
Plan - In the plan phase students will use their knowledge and creativity to design and draft potential solutions. They'll then take the best of these ideas and plan out the steps and resources needed to achieve their goal.
Create - Students will follow the plans they made to actually make the product they designed using appropriate tools and resources to the best of their ability.
Evaluate - Students will evaluate the success of their product/solution as well as reflect on what they learned through the entire process.
More detailed information about the MYP Design Cycle and the processes we go through will be provided throughout the year.
